The trading post is the Guild Wars 2 player trading system. It is global, enabling trade between all players across different servers. The Trading Post works like an auction house where a player can sell and buy items without the need to trade with a buyer or seller in person.

Gem Trading:

Through the Currency Exchange window you can either trade gold (in-game currency) for gems or trade your gems for gold. It shows market data like the price of recent gem sales, a price graph over the last few hours of trading, Average Price and Highest and Lowest prices over the last 5 days etc.

The Gem Store is a section in the Trading Post in which players can exchange gems for various items and boosts. Many purchased items are delivered through the Mail.

holy crap - the market data thing is amazing.  being able to watch market trends in real time is something most people can't even do with the real stock market, much less a fantasy game.  on the other hand, ppl make a killing in the WoW AH by having access to this data, so it'd be nice if the playing field was a little more level.

very cool stuff.

As long as it isn't P2W I could care less if they sell "fluff" items in game.  Here's hoping they make a lot of dough and keep the content updates coming at a brisk pace.

I can see myself buying a couple extra character slots at some point.

agreed - "pay to win" sucks and at least from their marketing copy they claim to not be interested in that.  paying for character slots is a bit annoying, though - and bank slots, too.  hopefully - as jaz pointed out in another thread - since you can trade in-game gold for gems that kind of stuff will still be accessible.

From what I've seen so far you can buy everything with gems, it just takes longer to get the in-game currency as opposed to buying something with real money instantly.

Guild bank expansion is part of the guild achievements.

There's even a swashbuckler outfit you can buy with gems that comes with emotes.

Pirate Captain’s Outfit can be purchased in Gem Store for 700 gems. This outfit is account bound and it is possible to change the color on many different parts of this outfit. This outfit gives a toy Pirate Sword which grants a unique set of skills that can be used:

Sword Flourish – Give a display of swashbuckling sword mastery
Shout – Shout a mighty taunt to all in ear shot.
Walk the Plank – Take a long walk off of a short plank
Call Parrot – Summon your trusty pet parrot to accompany you for a time.
Build Cannon – Build a cannon

it's my understanding that per-character bank slots also cost gems, however.
